MARTIAL ARTIST NOMINATED FOR HALL OF FAME

Sept. 23rd, 2009. A resident of the East Valley of Phoenix, Arizona & operator of the Arizona Traditional Karate Center in Mesa received nominations for several prestigious awards. Included are nominations for induction into Halls of Fame for lifelong contributions to martial arts and contributions to the geological sciences.

Grandmaster Hausel received invitations to the Action Martial Arts Magazine Hall of Fame scheduled January 8th & 9th at the famous Tropicana Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City New Jersey & to the Hall of Fame for Distinguished Accomplishments in Washington DC in 2010.  

Hausel has led a distinguished career in martial arts over the past 45 years including teaching at 4 major universities. He is a Grandmaster of Shorin-Ryu Karate &10th degree black belt & is no stranger to the Hall of Fame circuit. He has been inducted into 15 Halls of Fame, worldwide since 1998.

Being one of the top karate practitioners in the world is not easy & being at the top of a second, unrelated field is unheard of. Hausel is considered by many to be one of the top geoscientists in North America & is a popular author and artist. He is invited for induction into the HOF in Washington for his work & research in the geological sciences as well as contributions to martial arts.  He has also been nominated for three national & international awards for 2010: the International Einstein Award for Scientific Achievement, Magna Cum Laude Honor Award, & American Order of Merit for Professional Achievements.  

In 2009, he was inducted into Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America & nominated for Man of the Year. Grandmaster Hausel operates an international training center for Okinawan Martial Arts in Mesa, Arizona and is the head of Seiyo Kai International (http://Seiyo-ShorinRyu.webs.com) (http://ArizonaKarate.webs.com).  

KARATE INSTRUCTOR NOMINATED FOR AMERICAN ORDER OF MERIT

June 26, 2009. Dan Hausel, Soke no Shorin-Ryu Karate Kobudo Kai (Seiyo Kai) is a noted instructor of ‘traditional’ martial arts including the ethical value of the art. Soke Hausel, a 10th dan red belt, has been teaching karate for 4 decades. He currently teaches at the Mesa Arizona Hombu dojo and taught martial arts at 4 major universities in the past. According to Hausel, two individuals greatly influenced his martial arts path - Dai-Soke R. Sacharnoski of Juko Kai International and Gichin Funakoshi.

The majority of Soke Hausel’s students are quite educated & include PhDs & scientists, social scientists, engineers, business managers, economists, law enforcement agents, teachers, lawyers & doctors: several are faculty and researchers of universities around the world.  Members of Seiyo Kai International joke that their association has the highest average IQ of any martial arts association in the world.

 Over the years, Soke Hausel has been presented and nomated for several national & international awards in martial arts, science, writing & art. He is a member of 15 Halls of Fame for contributions in both martial arts and science.

This summer, J.M. Evans, President of the American Biographical Institute contacted Hausel stating , “I am writing to inform you that we wish to induct you into the American Order of Merit. Your achievements and dedication … make you a perfect inductee.  Dr. Hausel, you are an inspiration to those around you. On behalf of the Institute, I send my heartfelt thanks for the accomplished and honorable example you are demonstrating to others”.  

MARTIAL ARTS EXPERTS PROMOTED

April, 2009. Some Seiyo Shorin-Ryu instructors traveled to Mesa, Arizona between June 12 to 14th to train at the Seiyo Shorin-Ryu Hombu. The members underwent 2 days of training in Okinawa nunchuku-jutsu, self-defense, karate, hanbo-jutsu & tanto-jutsu.

Following training, all were certified in hanbojutsu. In addition, Kyle Linton of Wellington, Colorado received an appointment as Sensei (teacher) of Shorin-Ryu Karate & Kobudo. Sensei Linton is a sandan (3rd degree black belt).

Neal Adam of Phoenix and Glenn Polk of Cheyenne received promotions to yondan (4th degree black belt). Both also were appointed as Shihan-Dai (sub-master instructors) & Kevin Vance of Cheyenne was promoted to godan (5th degree black belt) in Shorin-Ryu Karate and Kobudo, and appointed as Shihan (master instructor).

FOX SPORTS SCIENCE COMBAT KI SPECIAL 

Dr. Rod Sacharnoski, Dai-Soke and Hanshi Kirby Roy of Juko Kai International were on a Sports Science TV Special in APRIL 2009. A 6'8" martial artist stuck Kirby in the neck with a shoto strike of 600+ pounds of pressure. This was followed by a kick to the groin measured at 1,100 pounds. Hanshi Roy was not even moved and totally relaxed!

SOKE CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARIES

January, 2009. In 1964, Dan Hausel began training in karate as a teenager, at the Black Eagle Federation dojo in Salt Lake City. In 2009, he celebrates his 45th anniversary as a martial artist! In 1969, He began teaching karate at the University of Utah Karate Club - this is his 40th year as a martial arts instructor. In 1999, Hausel was appointed the Sokeshodai of Seiyo No Shorin-Ryu Karate Kobudo Kai - making 2009 his 10th year as a grandmaster and the 10th Year anniversary of certification of the style by the Zen Kokusai Soke Budo Bugei Remnei. 

SOKE OF THE YEAR

Nov. 2000. W. Dan Hausel, Soke Shodai of Seiyo no Shorin-Ryu Karate Kobudo Kai was noted as the Top JKI Soke of the year for 2000 (Nov 2000 issue of Juko Kai Warrior, v. 40, no. 11).

UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING RECEIVES TOP RATING

In 1999, the University of Wyoming Campus Shorin-Ryu Karate & Kobudo Club was recognized as one of two top-rated JKI clubs. This was quite an achievement, as Laramie is located in one of the least populated regions of the United States.

Nov. 1999. Black Belt Magazine Buzzline writes, "W. Dan Hausel, Professor of Martial Arts at the University of Wyoming, was appointed Soke Shodai (grandmaster)/kudan (9th degree black belt) of Seiyo Shorin-Ryu Karate/Kobudo by the Zen Kokusai Soke Budo/Bugei Renmei commission at the Juko Kai International headquarters in North Carolina on September 26th, 1999. Soke Hausel was also recently honored in 1998 by induction into two hall of fames, honored as instructor of the year by two international associations, and highlighted in several Marquis, American Biographical Institute, and International Biographical Center Who's Who documents for accomplishments in martial arts, geological sciences, public speaking, writing and art."

JUKO KAI INTERNATIONAL JUKO-RYU KIJUTSU CLINIC IN LARAMIE, WYOMNIG

June, 2009. The University of Wyoming Campus Shorin-Ryu Karate & Kobudo Club hosted the 1996 Juko Kai International Juko-Ryu Kijutsu clinic in Laramie. The attendees of this international clinic included: Dai Soke R. Sacharnoski with Soke-Dai Melissa Sacharnoski to his left and Soke-Dai Mary Sacharnoski to his right in the front row. Dan Hausel of the UW club is in the back on the extreme left. Wayne Jensen with the UW club is located two persons to Ron Smith's right in back row. In front of Wayne (in the yellow) is Dan McConnell (from North Carolina), and kneeling in front of Dan is Kent Bergstrom (from Minnesota). TADASHI YAMASHITA TEACHES CLINIC AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING

Members of the University of Wyoming Campus Shorin-Ryu Karate and Kobudo Club (Seiyo Kai) were introduced to one of the Okinawan legends in martial arts at Corbett Gymnasium. Yamashita Sensei taught Shorin-Ryu karate and kobudo to more than 50 members of the club in the summer of 2003. Yamashita, a world famous martial artist, Hollywood stunt man, and Movie star was brought to the University by Soke Hausel and University Club Sports office.

JKI 45th ANNIVERSARY CLINIC

June 7th, 2008. Soke Hausel traveled to Dallas Texas to attend the 45th Anniversary clinic of Juko Kai international. This was a wonderful training session devoted to a living legend - Dai Soke, R. Sacharnoski, head of JKI. A large group of Dai-Soke Sacharnoski's students were in attendence.

 JKI OKINAWAN NUNCHUKU & NITANBO CLINIC, DALLAS

June 11th, 2006. Dan Hausel traveled to Dallas, Texas to attend train with living legend, Dai-Soke Sacharnoski. Training included Okinawan nitanbo and nunchuku.
